: Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry                                             

Stetson University seeks a full-time Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry.  The term of this faculty appointment will run from August 2018 to May 2019.

A Ph.D. in any traditional area of chemistry with evidence of strong teaching skills is required. The Chemistry program offers degrees in chemistry and biochemistry, and supports students interested in careers in the health sciences as well as those interested in attending graduate school. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for students from underrepresented groups.

This position requires the candidate to teach the equivalent of four courses each semester, typically assigned as two lectures and four lab sections per semester.  Primary teaching responsibilities will include general chemistry, organic chemistry, and/or biochemistry lecture and lab, and may also include an advanced lecture and lab in the candidate’s area of specialization or a course that satisfies one of the University’s General Education requirements. All majors in the College of Arts and Sciences complete a Senior Project; mentoring undergraduates as researchers is a key responsibility

The Department:
The Department of Chemistry ( is accredited by the American Chemical Society (ACS), offers ACS Certified Degrees in chemistry and biochemistry, and currently consists of six faculty members.  In 2009, the Chemistry Program occupied a newly-constructed 22,000 square-foot science facility, expanding classroom and laboratory capacity by over 50%.  In addition, renovations of faculty/student research spaces in our former facility have recently been completed, supported by a National Science Foundation grant of $610,000.  The new and renovated spaces are equipped with modern instrumentation purchased, in part, with a $2.75 million federal grant.  In spring 2012, the Chemistry Program installed a new, NSF funded, 400 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer.

The College of Arts and Sciences:
