 The University of Washington’s Materials Science and Engineering Department seeks candidates for a full-time tenure-track faculty position with a nine-month service period in the area of computational materials science to begin July 2018 or on a mutually agreed date thereafter. Faculty duties include research, teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and supervision of student research. Appointments at the level of Assistant Professor (0116) are preferred. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field will be expected to maintain an active research program with the core principles of computational materials science including but not limited to, the development and implementation of new methods for simulating quantum materials, ab initio cluster calculations, density functional theory, and molecular dynamics for providing insight into the fundamental physical properties of a range of inorganic and organic materials andwill be expected to connect to these initiatives.

UW has a number of university-wide initiatives underway or in development, on topics that include Materials [NSF Materials Research Science & Engineering Center (MRSEC)], Energy/ Environment [Clean Energy Institute], Manufacturing [Boeing Advanced Research Center (BARC)], Health, and Data and University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Individuals who can connect to these initiatives are preferred.
