We are seeking a scientist or engineer who is driven to advance research at Notre Dame through foundation funding.



The University of Notre Dame has a unique opportunity for a scientist or engineer who is looking to work on research “off the bench.”


The Director of Foundation Relations is charged with supporting the University of Notre Dame’s strategic academic objectives through faculty engagement, research/proposal development, ideation, and foundation relations. As part of a central development staff, the successful candidate will work with University faculty, staff, and administrators to surface, devise, and implement strategic academic fundraising initiatives within science and engineering to bolster the University’s research enterprise.


The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in science or engineering, as the Director will work directly with faculty to understand, synthesize, and articulate research to potential funders. The successful candidate is analytical, creative, and able to approach a concept from multiple angles. The successful candidate has superior writing and editing skills, is an effective communicator and able leader, and is comfortable and familiar with an academic setting.


Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree (4 years)

• Master’s and/or Doctoral degree highly preferred (science of engineering field)

• 7 or more years of experience

• Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) are required. Must possess the ability to work effectively with senior foundation executives and program officers, as well as faculty members.

• Demonstrated ability to develop/lead/execute successful multi-million dollar strategies in complex university/academic environments preferred. Familiarity with and experience in a top-tier research university is preferred.

• A results-oriented professional who works well in a team-setting is a must.
