Position Summary:
Located in Idaho Falls, ID, the Associate Director – Center for Advanced Energy Studies (CAES), facilitates the development of world-class, advanced, energy research between the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), industry and universities. The Associate Director is responsible for identifying and building strong relationships and programs among the INL, the Idaho Universities, and other CAES affiliates. The position is a joint appointment with the INL, holds faculty rank and may include tenure. The incumbent is expected to provide research leadership in an area of interest to CAES.
The Associate Director – CAES reports to the Vice President of Research and Economic Development (VP-RED), is accountable to the CAES Director, and is a member of the CAES leadership team consisting of a CAES Director (INL) and four Associated Directors one from each of the four CAES member universities-Boise State University (BSU), Idaho State University (ISU), University of Idaho (UI), and University of Wyoming (UW). In addition, the Associate Director ensures coordination and integration of UI and CAES research and educational activities through regular engagement with the Idaho Falls Center Executive Officer (IFC-EO). The VP-RED with inputs from the CAES Director and the IFC-EO conducts the incumbent’s annual performance review. The incumbent will proactively engage with the INL and other CAES institutions to ensure success.
Minimum Qualifications:
• An earned doctorate in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited university.
• Eligible to meet the criteria for rank of Associate or Full professorship at the UI.
• Research focus or interest relevant to the CAES and UI Idaho Falls missions.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain an “L” security clearance.
• This position requires the successful completion of a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
• A professional history that meets the criteria for tenure in an appropriate discipline.
• Proven research leadership capabilities demonstrated by success at a research/teaching university or other research organization.
• Demonstrated excellence in research and experience in collaborative research programs associated with energy studies.
• Demonstrated vision, capability, and experience to address the challenges associated with a broad range of energy challenges.
• Demonstrated commitment to the land-grant philosophy and to excellence in teaching, research, outreach, and services.
• Established experience in multi-institution collaboration plus an understanding of the Department of Energy and national laboratory functions and processes.
• Demonstrated commitment to national laboratory philosophy.
• Outstanding communication skills and demonstrated experience to interact successfully with faculty and staff, national laboratories, businesses, and research sponsors.
• Demonstrated commitment to affirmative action and diversity, and a high level of professional credibility and personal integrity.
