Department of Chemistry Lab Manager/Chemical Hygiene Officer
The Lycoming College Department of Chemistry invites applications for a Lab Manager/Chemical Hygiene Officer. The lab manager is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the laboratories including the use, disposal and inventory of all chemicals and supplies (including Material Safety Data Sheets). Duties consist of organization and preparation of chemistry laboratories as well as the instruction, training and supervision of student assistants. The lab manager is responsible for developing and implementing laboratory safety policies and procedures in order to enforce laboratory regulations and ensure a safe and functional laboratory environment. The lab manager will also be responsible for teaching laboratory sections of general chemistry or non-major laboratories.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry required. Master’s degree in Chemistry or related discipline and familiarity with current Federal and State regulations governing non-public academic laboratories preferred. The successful candidate must have experience in handling a wide variety of chemicals and a working knowledge of laboratory safety. Basic computer skills necessary. Must be familiar with spreadsheets and databases. Successful candidate must have strong communication skills (both verbal and written), organizational skills as well as the ability to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs. with assistance as needed. May occasionally need to work with hazardous chemicals.
