Applications are invited for a junior faculty position in:

The Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering invites applications from qualified individuals to a probationary, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, in Sustainable Chemical Engineering, effective July 1, 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. Exceptional candidates may be considered at the Associate Professor rank, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a junior position that will complement and collaborate with a Senior NSERC Industrial Research Chair focusing on the thermochemical conversion of biomass, aiming for the valorization of biomass co-products, -residues and -waste. The successful candidate will be an important member of the Institute for Chemicals and Fuels from Alternative Resources (ICFAR), conducting research at ICFAR, and contributing to its mission and objectives. ICFAR is an off-campus expanding research institute of Western Engineering, emphasizing technology transfer and commercialization, with a track-record of successful partnerships with industry and government, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and technical support for large pilot and demonstration plants.

We seek candidates to effectively contribute to the teaching and research efforts of the Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or in a related engineering discipline and will have demonstrated an outstanding record of research evident through publications in the discipline. The position will contribute to strengthening Western’s expertise in stimulating a circular economy through biomass processing and thermochemical conversion to upgrade renewable resources and wastes to value-added products. Candidates must have a strong background in process engineering and sound expertise in one or more of the following areas: multiphase reactors and/or fluidization, reaction engineering, biomass valorization, biofuel upgrade, fluid dynamics and multiphase reactor design. While not a necessity, relevant industrial experience will be viewed upon favorably. The successful candidate will be expected to enhance ICFAR’s and Western’s research capabilities through internal and external academic collaborations, attract external research funding, supervise graduate students, instruct undergraduate and graduate courses in chemical engineering and green process engineering, participate in other educational and professional activities, and contribute to the normal administrative activities of the Department, Institute, Faculty and University. Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is required for this appointment.
