About the Appointment
This is an exceptional opportunity for a visionary academic to lead the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering (SCBE) in the next phase of its development at the hub of the rapidly growing chemical, pharmaceutical, food, biotechnology and biomedical cluster at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

It is a Professorial appointment with concurrent appointment as Chair of the School. The successful candidate reports to the Dean of Engineering and is expected to provide leadership and oversight for the academic, intellectual and administrative affairs of the School and its two major disciplines – Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and BioEngineering. The Chair is a member of the Dean Advisory Committee and is expected to work closely with counterparts in the sister Schools within the College of Engineering, as well as those in the College of Science, to promote the ethos of multi- and trans-disciplinary innovation in research and education at NTU.  Building on the foundation and progress already made, there is significant scope for the incoming Chair to shape the School’s further development through strategic decisions in recruitment of world-class talents and pursuit of funding opportunities.

The appointee must have a strong record of academic achievements, research, and teaching at a reputable university. The appointee should also have strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage faculty colleagues, and commit to faculty shared governance.

The emphasis on engineering education and research in Singapore over the past decades has generated a research landscape which is comparable with the leading academic centres in the world. SCBE is a part of this terrain.

About the School
SCBE is a young and vibrant community. Our Faculty and Staff are committed to providing a nurturing environment to inspire the next generation of leading Chemical Engineers and Bioengineers with the ability to appreciate the multidisciplinary nature of the engineering profession. SCBE has been the first and only school in Singapore to offer a Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering programme, and today it is the only school in Singapore that trains students in both Chemical and Biomedical Engineering fundamentals towards preparing the students for the nascent chemical, food, biotech, pharmaceutical and biomedical industries both in Singapore and globally. In 2018, SCBE was ranked 14th in the world for Chemical Engineering by the Academic Ranking of World Universities and also 14th in the world by QS World University Rankings by Subjects Ranking (Chemical Engineering). Our faculty has won numerous awards such as the Gold award in the iGEM and our Program is listed as one of top 20 most desirable programs by the Top 15 percentile student applicants.

Research at the School encompasses both Chemical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering areas to explore creative solutions for the technological needs of our society. Current research areas include Low Carbon Technology and Pharmaceutical Engineering, Food Science and Technology, Biomedical Engineering (including nanomedicine, medical devices, biosensors and tissue engineering), sustainable processes, and others. Between 2017-2018, the SCBE faculty has published in top journals such as Nature, Nature Energy, Nature Biomedical Engineering, Advanced Materials, JACS, and other journals.
