The University of Florida is seeking a Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) to join the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team. The CHO is a new position for EHS and will be located at UF’s main campus in Gainesville, Florida. Primary job duties include 1) strengthening and streamlining existing CHP policies and practices, 2) advising PIs and Laboratory Supervisors/Managers of chemical-related health and safety requirements and assisting them with the selection of appropriate safety controls, and 3), working collaboratively with other EHS colleagues, UF Colleges, Departments, PIs, and lab groups to develop and review hazard assessments and SOPs for processes involving hazardous chemicals.

Minimum qualifications to apply are a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field and three (3) years of directly related experience in academic research, research and development, laboratory safety, chemical safety, or industrial hygiene. Preferred applicants will have previous CHO experience in an academic setting.
