Applications are invited for a POST-DOCTORAL ASSOCIATE at the University of Maryland Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research (IBBR) in Rockville, MD to work on developing advanced multifunctional polymers for use in drug delivery applications. The successful candidate is expected to design, plan, and execute multi-step organic synthesis and purification of polymers; summarize and interpret analytical data, participate in developing nanoparticulate formulations; contribute to the structure-activity relationship analysis and interpretation of in vitro and in vivo biological performance; work with internal and external teams to expeditiously deliver formulations for biological evaluation, and generate research reports and presentations for both internal and external use. Duties also include management of daily functions of the laboratory, including maintenance of common stocks of materials and reagents and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in polymer sciences, engineering, or related field.
• Must have completed all degree requirements before starting appointment, and be within five years of receiving a Doctorate degree;
• Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to contribute in a multidisciplinary team setting;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills required, as is the ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
Preferences: • Hands-on experience in the synthesis, purification, and characterization of synthetic macromolecules, experience in handling moisture sensitive reagents and reactive intermediates is highly desirable;
• Experience in one or more of the following technical areas is desirable: drug delivery, controlled release, biodegradable and multifunctional materials, microencapsulation, protein stability.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications.
