The School of Chemistry at the University of Melbourne seeks to appoint outstanding individuals at Level C (Senior Lecturer) and Level D (Associate Professor) to fill two continuing teaching and research positions within the areas of Biological Chemistry and/or Medicinal Chemistry. You will be resourced to establish vital research programs and will have access to some of Australia’s finest research students. You’ll establish laboratories in the Bio21 Institute, where you’ll interact with bright and motivated colleagues from Chemistry, Biochemistry and Medicine, and have access to first-rate chemical synthesis and characterization facilities. A competitive start-up package and access to first rate laboratories will provide you with the means to establish an internationally competitive research program revolving around the chemical challenges associated with health and the chemistry of biological systems.

As a candidate for the Level C position, you’ll have a PhD in Chemistry (or related discipline), with a strong research background in Biological Chemistry and/or Medicinal Chemistry, a record of publishing in first-rate journals, and a demonstrated ability to attract competitive funding to sustain your research. You'll have experience, enthusiasm and commitment for teaching Chemistry at all levels.

In addition to the above, for the Level D position, you’ll have a sustained record of attracting substantial competitive funding and graduating PhD students, and have an outstanding publication record. You will have demonstrated leadership in research, teaching, engagement and administrative roles.

The School of Chemistry is seeking to increase the representation of women in its academic workforce. Pursuant to a special measure under Section 12 (1) of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic), the School will, therefore, appoint a suitable qualified female candidate for at least one of these positions.

Your application should address the selection criteria. In addition, you should supply a short research proposal highlighting future directions of your research activities (≈2 pages).
