The Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering is seeking outstanding candidates for a full-time tenure-track position in the area of Materials Engineering in the broad areas of Polymers, Ceramics or Metals, to start August 2019. Specializations may include Biomaterials, Nanomaterials, Energetic Materials or other areas of regional interest. Development of strong research ties to the National Laboratories is encouraged. Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include classroom teaching, advising undergraduate and graduate students (at both MS and PhD level), development of a vigorous externally funded research program, and active participation in campus-related and professional service. The applicant must possess a doctoral degree in Materials Engineering, or a closely related field (e.g., Metallurgical, Ceramic or Polymer Science/Engineering, as well as more general degrees such as Physics, Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering with research focus on polymers, ceramics or metals). Applicants must have excellent research and communication skills and must be able and willing to teach courses in basic Materials Engineering as well as specialty classes in their subfield. In addition, the candidate will be expected to teach general engineering courses from time to time.
