Appointment Type Full Time

Purpose of Position

The Department of Molecular Biology and Chemistry at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the inaugural Dr. Lawrence J. Sacks Professorship in Chemistry, effective August 2019. The successful candidate for this newly endowed chair must present a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship and service that warrants an appointment with tenure at the rank of associate or full professor. The Ph.D. in Chemistry or closely related field is required at time of application and candidates in all areas of chemistry will be given full consideration.

The University seeks a teacher-scholar committed to undergraduate education who will engage students in creative intellectual challenges and pursue a robust research program in chemistry. The applicant may have the opportunity to develop courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, teach lower division courses in our Liberal Learning Core, and support the M.S. in Environmental Science. The nominal teaching load for this appointment is 3-3.

Phi Beta Kappa membership is highly desirable, as is a proven record of externally funded research.
