The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the University of Maryland, College Park, seeks outstanding applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position starting August, 2019. We particularly invite Physical Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry applicants with experimental research interests that complement existing strengths of the department and will help grow our signature programs in energy science and environmental security, quantum science and technology, or nanobiotechnology. Successful candidates will be expected to develop vigorous externally funded research programs, and have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentorship at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including working with students and groups from diverse backgrounds. 

Chemistry and Biochemistry is a key department in the College of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences. Our faculty participate in major University Centers and Institutes, including the NanoCenter, the Institute for Bioscience & Biotechnology Research (IBBR), the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC), and the Institute for Physical Science & Technology (IPST), and enjoy close interactions and collaborations with nearby government labs that include NIH, NRL, FDA, NASA and NIST. The University is the flagship campus of the University of Maryland System and is situated in close proximity to Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Maryland’s 270 Technology Corridor. Qualifications: Scholars who will build highly acclaimed research programs and achieve excellence in education. Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or closely related discipline, demonstrated research accomplishments, and experience in teaching/mentoring in the chemical sciences, broadly defined.
