The Chemistry Department at Eastern Michigan University invites applications for a tenure-track, 8-month Assistant Professor position beginning August 2019.


A Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a related field is required; postdoctoral experience is highly desired. Evidence of the ability to teach organic and general chemistry courses and to develop an active and ongoing research program with undergraduate and M.S. students should be provided. Candidates with demonstrated success in working with diverse populations of students are encouraged to apply.



The candidate is expected to contribute to teaching organic chemistry at the introductory and advanced levels and may have the opportunity to develop upper-level courses in their area of expertise. The applicant is expected to establish a competitive research program involving undergraduate and M.S. students and to pursue extramural funding.

Department of Chemistry:

The Department of Chemistry is ACS-accredited with 20 tenured or tenure-track faculty actively engaged in externally funded research involving undergraduate and graduate students. The department enrolls undergraduates in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Fermentation Science, and Chemistry Secondary Education, and graduate students in the Master of Science of Chemistry. The department also supports interdisciplinary programs in Environmental Science and Neuroscience. Additional collaborative opportunities may be available with science faculty in the departments of Biology, Polymers & Coatings, Mathematics, Physics & Astronomy, and Geography & Geology.
