The staff chemist in the Chemical Synthesis Core Facility is responsible for the planning, design and execution of the synthesis of small molecules for drug discovery and fundamental research in biology and biochemistry, as requested by internal and external customers. As required, the staff chemist also is responsible for establishing and maintaining collaborations with faculty at Einstein, and to actively contribute in efforts to obtain funding for such collaborations (grant writing, generation of preliminary data). The chemist will supply experimental documentation and compound characterization for use in publications resulting from the collaborations. Finally, the staff chemist is expected to fulfill various administrative duties required for the proper management of the facility (e.g., ordering, customer service, maintaining safety standards).

The successful applicant must have a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry or closely related field. Additional postdoctoral experience is desirable but not required. Salary will be based on years of experience. The applicant must be familiar with multistep synthesis, be able work reactions at scales that range from milligram to gram quantities, and have broad working knowledge of chemical reactions. The applicant must have experience in the purification of all intermediates and products and have analytical skills to unambiguously characterize these compounds using NMR and mass spectrometry. The applicant must be able to work with Einstein/Montefiore principal investigators in the design of syntheses and their inclusion in extramurally supported biomedical programs. Additional postdoctoral experience is desirable but not required. A salary will be between $55-70,000/yr. commensurate with years of experience.
