Faculty Position in Chemical Engineering

The Department of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science (CHEMS) in the College of Engineering at Michigan State University invites applications for a tenure-system position in chemical engineering with a starting date of August 16, 2019. Candidates are expected to possess an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering and a doctoral degree in chemical engineering or a closely related field at the time of appointment. Outstanding candidates with interests and demonstrated expertise in any area of chemical engineering research will be considered. The position is intended to be filled at the rank of Assistant Professor; however, exceptional candidates with a distinguished record in chemical engineering research and education will be considered for a higher rank. The successful candidate is expected to establish and sustain a sponsored research program, make scholarly contributions to their discipline, be an effective instructor and mentor to chemical engineering students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and engage in institutional and public service. Candidates should have a strong interest in participating in and contributing to interdisciplinary teams, and in developing collaborations across the Department, College of Engineering, and University.

The CHEMS department is comprised of 28 full-time equivalent tenure-system faculty members, five fixed-term faculty members, four academic specialists, and over 800 graduate and undergraduate students. The chemical engineering program offers degrees at the BS, MS, and PhD levels; faculty in the program engage in instruction and perform cutting edge research in a variety of areas including polymers and composites, biomolecular and protein engineering, catalysis and transport in electrochemical energy systems, biosensors, and bio-renewable fuels and chemicals. Shared research facilities are available across campus for carrying out state-of–the-art experimental studies in chemical engineering and related disciplines.
