Tenure Track Assistant Professor – Chemical Immunology

Department of Chemistry

University of Massachusetts Amherst

The Department of Chemistry and the Department of Veterinary and Animal Science at the University of Massachusetts (http://www.chem.umass.edu) along with the Center for Bioactive Delivery within the Institute for Applied Life Sciences (IALS, https://www.umass.edu/cbd/) are embarking on a strategic hiring program enabled by the creation of this Institute. Applicants are invited for a full-time, tenure track faculty position in the area of translational chemical immunology in the Department of Chemistry or in the Department of Veterinary and Animal Science at the assistant professor level to begin September 2019 or thereafter. We seek applicants with experience in chemistry-driven immune intervention who will develop or continue a vigorous research program focused at the intersection of immunology/immunotherapy and chemistry. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, identification of new immune modulators or immune system components, development of materials for controlling or exploiting immunological factors and responses, novel vaccine strategies, immunotherapeutics, protein engineering with specific interests towards designing and synthesizing antibody-like biologics and chemically-relatable proteins and novel biological and chemical strategies to manipulate the immune system for therapeutic purposes, particularly in a time or stimuli responsive manner. The use of relevant animal models is especially sought. We envision the candidate hired for this position may interact closely with the hire identified in the ongoing search in Veterinary and Animal Science for an immunologist in the area of engineering immune responses.

A Ph.D. degree or equivalent in immunology, chemistry or a related field with relevant post-doctoral experience is required.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vita, statement of research, statement of contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion (identifying past experiences and future goals) and arrange for three letters of references to be submitted on-line at: http://careers.umass.edu/amherst/en-us/job/496059/tenure-track-assistant-professor-immunotherapy

Evaluation of applicants will begin on December 15, 2018 and may continue until a suitable candidate pool has been identified.

Questions pertaining to this position can be directed to the search committee chair at facultysearch@chem.umass.edu.
