Research and Development Chemist

Cimcool Fluid Tech in Cincinnati, OH, USA

Milacron-Cimcool is seeking a R&D Chemist to work with the R&D group formulating metalworking fluids based at our North American Metal Working Fluid Technologies Manufacturing Plant in Oakley, OH while also continuing to develop metalworking fluids in his/her area of expertise. This role will report to the North America Engineering & Development Manager to help define projects that support CIMCOOL field efforts and fulfill the Global Strategic R&D Programs and overall R&D efforts.

  • Research and formulation for new products for metalworking, including:
  • Performing lab validation and testing of products to ensure they meet performance, safety, environmental, and quality criterion.
  • Conduct evaluations based on customer required procedures.
  • Interpret lab results and prepare reports of results for internal review.
  • Complete basic experiments following established procedures, or develop and conduct non-routine tests based on the goals of the project. Plan experiments necessary to achieve assignment goals.
  • Work within established time frame and schedules.May be required to visit customer locations to observe products in use or troubleshoot.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or Physics or related science, though experience may be considered as equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the Metal Working Fluids industry strongly desirable; however, other relevant industry experience will also be considered for the role.


  • Exceptional technical knowledge of metalworking fluids.
  • Receive and improve from constructive coaching.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with teams of two or more.
  • Strong communicator. Can build trust based partnerships and relationships through professional, transparent, and honest communication with all his/her team, peers, and management team.
  • Excellent written communication skills. Clear, articulate, and concise speaker. Can extract, simplify, and present to a wide audience the core message of a complex technical challenge or opportunity.
  • Leads by example and demonstrates strong work ethics.
  • Provides a clear view on project timelines and tends to over deliver.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with complex competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of best lab practices, methods of experimental design, and statistical analysis of data.
