We are seeking multiple outstanding postdoctoral researchers in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or related area to conduct world-leading research in defect-driven quantum information science (QIS) research.  The successful candidate will work on one or more of the following  projects: (1) development of in-situ and operando single quantum defect characterization capabilities toward achieving deterministic defect creation, (2) conducting advanced single defect optical spectroscopies and quantum optic experiments on wide variety of defects ranging from defects of SiC and GaN bulk semiconductors to those created in 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) and 1D single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), (3) integration of defects into nanoelectronic devices and photonic/plasmonic cavities.  A strong background in scanning probe based lithography approaches with demonstrated ability in development of new approaches in microscopy, lithography, or nanomanipulation is highly desirable.  Candidates accomplished in research of defect-driven quantum information science, 2D TMDs, covalent functionalization of SWCNTs /TMDs, nanomaterial assembly, non-traditional electronic/ photonic integration, optoelectronic device development, and single defect/molecules/quantum dot spectroscopy are also highly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Conduct state of art research in one or more of the research projects mentioned above
  • Be an effect member of the QIS research team.
  • Analyze the data, write papers and present at international conferences.
  • Support CINT user science in the area of QIS, nanophotonics and optical nanomaterials.
  • Develop new optical spectroscopy or integration capabilities.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant area of science or engineering.
  • Demonstrated record of scientific research achievement (through publications, citations, and presentations) in one or more areas mentioned above.
  • Outstanding verbal skills and a record of effective scientific communication.
  • Demonstrated ability of working in a research team in development of new experimental capability

Desired Skills

  • Ability to independently design and conduct new experiments.
  • Experience developing and cultivating successful scientific collaborations.
  • Experience working with or at a national user facility.
  • Experience mentoring students.
  • Experience in 3D printing
  • Experience in device fabrication and testing
  • LabView and/or MathLab programming skills
  • The ability to obtain a DOE “Q” clearance.

Notes to Applicants

  • Contact Han Htoon (htoon@lanl.gov) directly about this position. A cover letter and resume are required.

Where You Will Work
