Assistant Professor/Lecturer of Marine Sciences
The University of Maine at Machias seeks a broadly trained marine scientist with an expertise in marine biology and chemistry, committed to undergraduate teaching excellence. This 2-year, fixed length position will begin Fall 2019. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to quality undergraduate instruction, with a particular interest and expertise in teaching from a combination of Algal Biology, Oceanography, or other marine courses. The successful candidate is also expected to teach from General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry in support of our Marine Biology, Biology and Environmental Studies programs. The expected teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. It is desirable that students are involved in pertinent research questions as part of their course work, and will be able to utilize our Marine Science Field Station (https://downeastinstitute.org/).
The successful candidate for the Assistant Professor rank will have a doctorate in marine sciences, chemistry, or related field by September 1, 2019. Applicants with a completed Master’s may be considered at the Lecturer rank. All UMM faculty are expected to be involved in the life of the institution and the success of its students who are diverse in skills, ages, and backgrounds. We want someone strongly committed to teaching at a small, coastal university.
