Job Details

The American Chemical Society is looking for a Project Manager, Student Communities to join the Education Division.

ACS Education assists students and postdoctoral scholars in the chemical sciences with their educational and professional development by introducing them to ACS programs and services.

ACS Education is seeking an individual who can demonstrate initiative and reliability, provide superior team and project management skills, and explore and execute new ideas that will benefit the office’s effectiveness while juggling competing priorities.

Position Summary

The project manager will assist with the development, coordination, and support of operations associated with ACS programming and resources for career exploration and students support. This includes development of an integrated career exploration platform student chapter grants, annual chapter reporting and review, national and regional meeting activities, recruitment and retention of chapters, and the introduction of Graduate Student Chapters to ACS. Work involves complex problem-solving, complex assignments, in-depth analysis, and conceptual thinking.

Position Accountabilities

  1. Manages integration, expansion, and updates of career exploration modules for students and postdoctoral scholars.
  2. Assesses and evaluates student and postdoctoral scholars programs and activities.
  3. Develops structures for the implementation of ACS Graduate Student Organizations (GSOs).
  4. Coordinates outreach efforts to graduate students and potential student chapters; provides chapter mentoring to these groups.
  5. Collaborates with Education colleagues to develop a strategy to improve the undergraduate to graduate student continuum.
  6. Introduces and manages grant processes for GSOs maintains all files and tracking for these grants. Conducts monthly or bimonthly quality checks with grant recipients.
  7. Assists with the planning and coordination of specific events for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars at national and regional meetings, organizes workshops and events, and coordinates volunteers.
  8. Coordinates all aspects of the student chapter reporting process, including all online and on-site portions of the review cycle.
  9. Completes and assists with special projects as assigned.

Required Experience

Graduate degree in a chemical or related science is preferred; may have an advanced degree or equivalent experience. Superior customer service skills and experience in project management is preferred; 5+ years of experience. Occasional travel (including weekends) will be required (approximately 4-6 trips per year).

Strong interpersonal, analytical, written and oral communication and organizational skills are required. Superior customer service skills.
