The position is open in the Center for Natural Products, Drug Discovery and Development (CNPD3), Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Florida. Job responsibilities include, hands-on assay development, optimization and miniaturization, and small molecule and genomic screening. The selected candidate would also be required to carry out mechanistic follow-up studies on hit compounds from different screening projects. Related responsibilities would include grant writing and submission to support the Center’s assay development and screening campaigns, assist with preparing budget proposals for collaborator screens and carrying out screens for SAR studies while working closely with synthetic chemists. The successful candidate should have a PhD in Pharmacology, Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology or related with at least 3-5 years of postdoctoral studies in similar research. Experience with screening or testing small molecule drugs evidenced by appropriate publications with proven ability to conduct independent research performing a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests and experimental procedures for pre-clinical studies would be required.
Minimum Qualifications: Doctoral degree in Biology or closely related field with 3 years of relevant postdoctoral experience.
A conceptual understanding of the practicalities of medium-throughput compound library screening with robotic equipment.
Skilled in tissue culture with good understanding of basic approaches to adapting a cell-based assay to medium throughput (96 well or 384 well plate) assay format.
Fluorescence microscopy and quantitative image analysis – using automated image analysis with CellProfiler, Columbus, ImageJ or similar.
Immunofluorescence microscopy; live cell staining; high throughput microscopy; Matlab scripting - especially image analysis; multivariate statistical analysis will be highly advantageous.
Must be knowledgeable in general wet lab procedures to carry out “mechanistic follow-up” studies for drug leads and must be meticulous in recording, tracking and reporting of data collected for grants, publications and presentations
Must be able to multi-task and work well with individuals at many levels including students, postdocs, technicians and faculty.
