About the Role

Working closely across several departments, the Manager, Technical Initiatives (Manager, TI) is responsible for the work done within the Industrial Hygiene space, acts as a grass-roots organizer, and proactively oversees work within the IH arena.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Implements Strategic Initiatives

  • Work closely with the Managing Director, Education & Technical Initiatives and Volunteer Groups to recognize trends and opportunities and translate them into products and services for the profession and association
  • Constant and frequent communication with technical committees and evaluate opportunities for more engagement and/or streamlining of initiatives
  • Interact with local sections and subject matter experts (SMEs) to help guide and advance priorities
  • Provide technical writing through the State of Research and a variety of other technical documents on behalf of AIHA

Administer Content Portfolio Advisory Group (CPAG)

  • Ensure existing content is being reviewed and updated, coordinate with members and SMEs to efficiently manage the update process
  • Advance work on new emerging priorities through cultivating a community of SMEs and engaging our membership on an exchange of ideas
  • Regularly update content priority dashboards
  • Moderate all technical and CPAG communities on Catalyst, AIHA’s online community
  • Post to social media channels on technical and related matters
  • Run the annual face-to-face CPAG committee meeting

Manage the Guideline Foundation

  • Oversee Emergency Response Planning Guideline committee (ERPG) so it is run smoothly and efficiently with a focus towards the future of the industry
  • Stay abreast of Standards updates (ISO and ANSI) and communicate regularly internally and externally as new updates are on the horizon and during implementation, when necessary

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • A CIH or someone in the IH profession is strongly preferred
  • Master’s degree preferred; Bachelor’s degree required in a STEM area, specifically in Chemistry
  • Required:
    • At least 5 years of previous experience in a non-profit or association, preferably managing in a scientific area
    • At minimum, basic knowledge of the Industrial Hygiene profession
    • Strong technical writing skills
    • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft products (primarily Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Preferred:
    • At least 3 years of grassroots organizing experience
    • Able to work with an Association Management System (AMS)
    • Experience with technical committees and volunteer management

Travel will be required for this position. Attendance at our annual conference and possibly travel to Local Sections to provide presentations.
