Position: The Department of Chemistry at Northern Michigan University invites applications for an Instructor or Assistant Professor in Chemistry.  This is a campus-based, three-year term position to begin in August 2019. Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties of this position will be to teach first year chemistry lecture, lab and discussion.  Teaching duties may include chemistry for science majors, liberal arts chemistry, and/or chemistry for nursing or other health students.  Other assignments are possible based on the expertise of the applicant.

Minimum Qualifications: Appointment at the rank of Instructor requires an earned Masters of Science in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemistry Education or closely related field; whereas, appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor requires a Ph. D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemistry Education or closely related field.  Teaching experience at the university level. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Applicants are expected to have oral and written communication skills and time management skills.  Applicants must be committed to undergraduate education and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate students.  Successful candidates must have problem-solving skills and laboratory diagnostic capabilities.  All individuals are expected to work well with an instructional team, including but not limited to fellow instructors and laboratory assistants.

Additional Desirable Qualifications:  Previous experience with assessment of general education courses and curricular design.  Willingness to participate in departmental activities.
