The Department of Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (http://www.chem.unc.edu) invites applications for the position of Supervisor of Undergraduate Teaching Laboratories. The position provides leadership and direction in the management of the Chemistry Department’s undergraduate laboratories and will be responsible for the undergraduate laboratory program on a day-to-day and semester-to-semester basis.

This position works with faculty to review, assess, plan, develop, and structure the undergraduate chemistry laboratory curriculum in support of the educational mission of the Department. This position ensures comprehensive preparation for successful laboratory curriculum and classes such as preparing reagents and labs for experiments; implementing strategies for maintaining excellent safety standards, and assuring proper building services.

This position also supervises, trains, develops and advises teaching assistants and undergraduate lab assistants. This position is responsible for laboratory courses as well as developing and implementing the required training program for Teaching Assistants in order to successfully lead undergraduate laboratory courses. This position does require supervision of afternoon and evening laboratory classes. Additional duties may be assigned according to departmental needs, including teaching undergraduate chemistry lecture courses.

This opening is a career-track staff position with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2019. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Chemistry or a related discipline; a demonstrated ability to effectively relate to faculty members and technical staff; and excellence in organizational, communication, and decision-making skills. Preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of three years of experience in chemistry teaching and/or lab management.
