Overview
John I. Haas, Inc., the leading supplier of hops and advanced hop products for the brewing industry, is currently seeking a highly talented Associate Scientist to join our Innovations team. The successful candidate will serve a critical role to support the research and development of innovative new hop and hop-based products. Specific job functions will include:
- Independently performing R&D trials on new hop products and processes under minimal supervision and/or in teams
- Maintaining thorough, accurate, and orderly records for all relevant activities, including laboratory and pilot plant trials
- Collaborating cross-functionally for the purpose of commercializing new products and implementing process improvements
- Work up of experimental/trial data and communication of results to appropriate stakeholders
- Operation and maintenance of laboratory and pilot plant equipment and instruments in a safe, clean, and orderly fashion, and
- Support of the overall innovations department by updating, managing, and maintaining electronic project notebooks, servers, and SharePoint portals.
This is a hands-on position that involves running lab- to pilot-scale experiments/trials, instrumental analysis, and working collaboratively across different functional areas.
Qualifications
Required:
- Strong work ethic, team player, and self-starter
- B.S. in chemistry, biology, food science, or a related scientific field
- One to three years of applicable work experience
- Ability to carry out duties and instructions in a diligent and logical scientific manner with minimal amounts of supervision
- Familiarity and experience with the operation of standard laboratory instruments including gas chromatography (GC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometers
- Ability to perform the physical tasks necessary for the safe operation of pilot plant laboratory equipment
- Knowledge and experience with product development processes
- Detail oriented
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication skills
