As an Engineering Technician (Materials), you will:

  • Plan and conduct all testing phases and makes necessary arrangements to conduct industrial experiments or laboratory analyses.
  • Independently evaluate suspect counterfeit coins, genuine coins and other materials using a wide variety of composition, physical properties and metallurgical testing equipment including: Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectrometry (GD-OES) and X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) and other similar precision analytical equipment.
  • Perform tests of packaging materials and package systems to determine compatibility with coinage metals, environmental degradation, and counterfeit deterrence suitability.
  • Utilize an optical microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM) or similar equipment to analyze material structures, elements and surfaces to determine composition, surface characteristics and/or the nature of defects, inclusions and other items of interest.
