Trudeau Institute, an internationally acclaimed, path-breaking research institute focused on addressing the continuing burden of infectious disease, has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Associate. The Institute has recently expanded to develop the Trudeau Research Network, consisting of productive, collaborative and strategic inter-disciplinary partnerships, including New York State, biomedical research institutions, biopharma/biotech, and major foundations, with Trudeau as a hub. The Network features PhD & MD-led teams engaging in multi-disciplinary pre-clinical and translational research devoted to translating the advances of basic science into new strategies to meet today’s urgent global health challenges.

As a part of Trudeau Chemogenomic research, we are recruiting an innovative, highly motivated computational chemist/biochemist/biologist to help develop and apply breakthrough methods for efficient identification of new opportunities for therapeutic intervention in the control of viral and bacterial infections, including drug-resistant tuberculosis.

The successful candidate will deploy outstanding computational skills and a thorough understanding of protein-ligand interactions, small molecule structure-activity relationships, physical chemistry of bacterial cell walls, and protein sequence and structure determinants of binding selectivity. The Associate will work closely with the experimental colleagues at the Institute to establish determinants of pathogen survival under realistic ex vivo and in vivo conditions and identify small molecule tools and leads to eliminate drug resistant infections. The Institute is ideally suited for experimentation with dangerous pathogens, contains capacious lab and animal facilities, including ABSL-3, maintained by experienced staff, and is well equipped with advanced microscopy and flow cytometry instrumentation.

The successful candidate will also benefit from working within the Trudeau Research Network, interacting in a highly collaborative manner with academic, clinical and industry colleagues. Duties will include computational and optionally experimental research, and presentation of results at meetings and in publications.

Qualifications: PhD or MD/PhD with evidence of innovation, diligence, and productivity;

-Expertise in one or several and working knowledge of most of the following techniques: comparative protein sequence and structure analyses, protein modeling, protein-ligand interactions, 2D/3D chemoinformatics, structure-activity relationships, comparative analysis of enzyme active sites, pathway analysis;

-Strong programing skills: Python, Perl, UNIX shell scripting, SQL, API queries; experience with working with large chemical and biological databases;

-Strong background in physical chemistry, linear algebra, organic chemistry, structural biology, molecular and cellular biology, microbiology and immunology.

Trudeau Institute is located in an affordable, small town environment in the midst of the beautiful Adirondack Mountains in New York State. On-campus housing situated on a recreational lake is available. We offer competitive salaries along with a robust benefits package (including health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance and a generous employer retirement contribution). The Institute is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer encouraging women, individuals with disabilities, minorities and veterans to apply.
