Job Details

Nebraska Wesleyan University is seeking applications for a one-year, Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry for the 2019-2020 academic year (starting August 14, 2019 through May 15, 2020).  Nebraska Wesleyan is a liberal arts institution with approximately 2,100 students and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.  Candidates from all fields of study within the chemistry discipline will be considered.  This is a full-time benefit eligible position, which includes a comprehensive package including health, vision and dental insurance benefits, retirement benefits, a generous holiday schedule, and undergraduate tuition remission for employee’s dependents among other benefits.

Responsibilities:

Faculty responsibilities include teaching twelve credit hours per term, fall and spring semesters, including day/evening, undergraduate/graduate and traditional/accelerated classes.  Teaching assignments will be in the general and/or organic chemistry lecture and lab sequences, and an upper level course in the candidate’s field of chemistry.  Opportunities to supervise undergraduate research are available. Nebraska Wesleyan University has an ACS-certified chemistry major and a biochemistry/molecular biology major.  The successful candidate will be expected to attend department, school, and campus-wide meetings, as needed, and stay current in one's academic discipline.

Qualifications and Attributes:

•             A doctorate degree in Chemistry is preferred, or MS plus 18 completed credit hours towards a doctoral degree required in a related field

•             Familiarity with Canvas course technology or similar LMS software is a plus

•             Demonstrated interpersonal and innovative teaching skills are required 

•             Ability to work independently and collaboratively with faculty and students is essential

•             Strong commitment to student-centered active learning and student engagement activities

•             Experience, knowledge and appreciation for a liberal arts tradition
