Michigan State University invites applications and nominations for the Chairperson of the Department of Chemistry. The Chair will lead a department of over 40 tenure-track faculty members, 40 staff members and 200 Ph.D. graduate students. The department occupies a modern 280,000 ft 2 building, office annex and lecture-hall wing. The interdisciplinary faculty are nationally and internationally recognized for their expertise and research accomplishments in the traditional areas of chemistry (analytical, biological, inorganic, organic and physical) as well as chemistry education and nuclear chemistry.

Minimum Requirements

The Chair will be expected to build upon MSU’s internationally recognized research programs, lead the department in strategic planning, work to pursue innovations and collaborations in research, education, and service, and support and promote diversity, equality, collegiality, and inclusion at all levels. The Chair will also be expected to maintain an active research program and will be supported by state-of-the-art research facilities, expert administrative staff, and scientific specialists.

The successful candidate must have an earned PhD in Chemistry or a related field and be qualified for an appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure. The candidate must provide evidence of administrative leadership, vision, mentoring, and a strong commitment to diversity. The candidate should have strong interpersonal and communication skills and a productive and actively funded academic research program.
