Job Details

The Penn State Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) facility is seeking a full-time spectroscopist who will be responsible for performing a broad range of NMR techniques on all the instrumentation, including both solid and liquid state NMR experiments. The NMR facility houses a total of nine high resolution NMR instruments ranging from 400 MHz to 850 MHz (1H frequency) covering research areas including bio-molecules, small molecules, metabolomics, materials, and food sciences. Operation and maintenance of the NMR spectrometers, troubleshooting the instruments, and training NMR users are also major responsibilities of the position. In addition, this position is expected to assist the Director with NMR billing, maintenance of the NMR Facility web page, and in reaching out to non-Penn State users, i.e. industrial users. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. preferably in materials science research area, employing solid-state NMR spectroscopy as the primary tool. The successful candidate will have opportunities to broaden his/her skills in a wide range of research problems and can engage in active research through collaborations. The successful candidate will also be expected to help write proposals and to oversee postdoctoral fellows in the facility. The position is a non-tenure track, fixed-term multi-year position with the initial period of appointment being three years from the hire date with excellent opportunity for renewal.
