Job Details

The Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Arts and Science, University of Toronto, invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Polymer and Materials Chemistry. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter.  

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree by date of the appointment or shortly thereafter in the broadly defined area of Polymer and Materials Chemistry, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental strengths. To that end, we are interested in applicants whose expertise and research interests include any of the following: fundamental studies and applications directed toward biological and health related problems, sustainable chemistry, renewable energy, nanochemistry, and optoelectronics.  

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct innovative research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, independent, externally-funded research program. Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research as demonstrated by the submitted research statement and a record of publications in top-ranked and field relevant academic journals or a publication pipeline that is meeting high international standards, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees of high international standing.  

We seek applicants with a strong academic background and demonstrated excellence in teaching.  Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong endorsements by referees, and the teaching dossier, including a statement of teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations, and sample course syllabi, submitted as part of the application.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
