The Skidmore College ACS-approved Department of Chemistry invites applications from individuals, at any rank, who can teach primarily in our organic chemistry sequence for a tenure-track position to begin Fall 2020. Skidmore is a highly selective, nationally-ranked liberal arts college located in Saratoga Springs, New York with a student population of 2,650, 24% of whom are domestic students of color, 12% are international students, and 14% are first generation students. The successful candidate will contribute to the growing diversity and excellence of the academic community through their inclusive teaching, scholarship, and service. With its relatively small size and student-faculty ratio (8:1), Skidmore is known for its faculty of teacher-scholars devoted to the instruction and mentoring of undergraduates. Enthusiasm for teaching, mentoring, and advising a diverse student population is essential.

A Ph.D. in organic chemistry or a related field (e.g., chemical biology, medicinal chemistry, organometallic chemistry, and polymer chemistry) is required and post-doctoral experience is beneficial, although not required. The successful candidate will be expected to teach on average 9 contact hours each semester (a lecture section is 3 contact hours, a lab section is 3 to 4 contact hours), primarily in our organic chemistry sequence plus on occasion upper level courses in their area of specialization, introductory courses, and every few years an interdisciplinary first-year seminar (topic open), as well as develop a vibrant research program with undergraduate collaborators, advise students, and participate in departmental and college service.
