The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Providence College invites applications for a full-time, two-semester visiting position at the assistant professor level in General Chemistry to begin in August 2019. 


Providence College is a Roman Catholic four-year liberal arts institution conducted under the auspices of the Dominican Friars and seeks candidates who can affirm and contribute to its Mission. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Providence College has nine full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty, and approximately 50 major students in four degree programs. Reports to: Department Chair 

Essential Duties: The successful applicant will teach first- and second-semester freshman-level general chemistry lecture and general chemistry laboratory sections. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to engaged learning in their undergraduate teaching responsibilities and will be given the opportunity to participate in the wider life of the department.

Education and Experience Required: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Chemistry from an accredited institution by the time of appointment and provide evidence of teaching excellence.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry currently has nine full-time tenure-track faculty members, a teaching laboratory coordinator and an administrative assistant. The department offers two B.S. degree tracks, one in chemistry and one in biochemistry. It also offers a B.A. degree in chemistry that is often coupled with study in education or business. Recent graduates have gone on to enroll at prestigious research and medical programs including MIT, California-­Bekeley, Cal Tech, Wisconsin-­Madison, Columbia, Northwestern, Princeton and Yale. Some of these alums have completed NIH post-bac programs and currently three alums hold prestigious NSF graduate fellowships.
