Chair, Department of Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry at Oklahoma State University (OSU) invites applications for the position of Department Chair. The position will be at the rank of Full Professor with tenure. The University seeks an experienced, dynamic leader with a strong commitment to teaching and research.
Currently, the Department consists of 21 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 5 non-tenure track faculty, 170 undergraduate majors, and 70 graduate students. Over 33% of undergraduate majors and 41% of faculty are from underrepresented groups or other countries. The Department is responsible for teaching approximately 23,000 student credit hours per academic year. External research funding in Chemistry currently exceeds $3.8 M annually.
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department Chair of Chemistry is the chief academic, administrative, and budgetary officer as well as the primary spokesperson for the Department. Applicants should have a PhD in Chemistry or a related field, have an accomplished research and teaching record, and be highly regarded and recognized by the scientific community. In addition, previous leadership experience in higher education is desirable. The Chemistry Department Chair position consists of 50% administrative and 50% academic duties. The successful candidate will have a reduced teaching load, and will maintain a research program through externally-funded projects, peer-reviewed publications, and mentoring of graduate students.
