The UW Institute for Protein Design is seeking to hire a Research Scientist / Engineer 1 whose duties will be to provide experimental support for research projects as part of the IPD Protein Production Facility, Peptide. The Research Scientist/Engineer will be part of a small team focused on peptide synthesis and characterization.
Main duties will include solid-phase peptide synthesis, purification, and mass spectrometry experiments.
Candidate must have familiarity with office productivity software (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) to prepare research reports for on the work performed. Candidate must be proficient in organic chemistry, . Candidate will assist graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and research staff with peptide synthesis, purification, and biophysical characterization.
In this role, ~ 70% of duties will involve multi-step organic synthesis including reaction design, execution, and development of workup, isolation, and purification procedures.
Approximately 20% of duties will involve the operation and maintenance of mass spectrometry instrumentation.
Approximately 10% of duties will involve supervision and direction of undergraduate research assistants.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry or related field.
- Previous experience or familiarity with organic chemistry and peptide synthesis.
- Previous experience with biophysical methods for protein/peptide characterization.
