Senior Scientific Engineering Associate - 87988
Organization: AL-Advanced Light Source

Berkeley Lab’s Molecular Foundry Division (https://foundry.lbl.gov/) has an opening for a Senior Scientific Engineering Associate. The successful candidate will work with the staff and users of the Biological Nanostructures Facility (https://foundry.lbl.gov/about/facilities/biological-nanostructures/) at the Molecular Foundry to advance basic scientific research in the synthesis, characterization and manipulation of organic molecules, nanocrystals, and molecular biology. This position will supervise and assist users by providing project planning, training in the design, synthesis, and characterization or organic, nanocrystal, or protein-based materials, and scientific interpretation. In addition the Senior Scientific Engineering Associate will apply and develop new methods to design, synthesize, and characterize organic, nanocrystal, or protein-based materials.

The Molecular Foundry provides communities of users with access to expert staff and leading-edge instrumentation in synergy with robust staff-led internal research programs to enable the understanding and control of matter at the nanoscale in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment. As one of the seven facilities in the Molecular Foundry, the Biological Nanostructures Facility serves a broad user community with expertise at the intersection of nanoscience and living systems.  The facility carries out original research and assists users by providing project planning, training in instrumentation and interdisciplinary methodologies, problem solving, and scientific interpretation.

The Molecular Foundry strives for a culture of scientific excellence that promotes community-building, prioritizes safety, and embraces diversity. Therefore, we seek candidates whose research, past employment, or service has prepared them to contribute to community-building, safety, diversity and inclusion. We believe that these values directly contribute to our highly engaged, interactive and productive world-class research institute.
