Assistant Level Faculty Position – Structural Biochemistry - Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

 

The department is seeking applicants whose expertise and interests lie in contemporary structural biochemistry. That is, the development and application of state-of-the-art experimental structural and biophysical techniques to advancing the understanding of structure-function relationships, to probing the functional roles of biomolecular dynamics, or to improving and expanding biomolecular design. Candidates may be developers or advanced users of structural biology and/or physical biochemistry tools, and will be driven by outstanding and important questions in biochemistry. We welcome applications from candidates of diverse and interdisciplinary scientific backgrounds, including, but not limited to, biochemistry, chemistry, biology, biophysics, and bioengineering.

 

Responsibilities of faculty members include teaching at undergraduate and graduate levels, recruitment, supervision, and mentorship of graduate students, participation in university service and professional activities, and the development of an actively funded research program of the highest quality. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in the Chemical Sciences or a related field by the time of appointment in the position. Candidates may hold postdoctoral (or equivalent) appointments. Applicants currently holding the rank of Assistant Professor (or equivalent) are also welcome to apply. A demonstrated record of excellence in research, and a record of (or potential for) outstanding teaching are desired. Successful candidates may have a record of collaborative research, and will be able to leverage synergies within and between the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and sister departments, and units such as Chemical Engineering, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, and the Center for Bioengineering. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate to the position.
