Job Details

Tufts University continues to expand its capabilities in STEM education research with two new tenure-stream positions, one in the School of Arts & Sciences (A&S) and one in the School of Engineering (SoE).

Tufts A&S invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Chemistry Education Research, for a primary appointment Chemistry or, possibly, in the Department of Education. Tufts SoE invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Engineering Education Research, for a primary appointment in any of its six departments – Computer Science department; or Biomedical, Chemical and Biological, Civil and Environmental, Electrical and Computer, or Mechanical Engineering departments. Both positions will affiliate with the Institute for Research on Learning and Instruction (IRLI)

These positions, and IRLI, are designed to support discipline-based education research, at levels including undergraduate.

Located in the Boston area, Tufts University benefits from outstanding undergraduate and graduate students, collaborative faculty, and cross-disciplinary research opportunities. Tufts is one of the smallest universities ranked as a Research 1 university, and it offers the best of a liberal arts college atmosphere, coupled with the intellectual and technological resources of a major research university. Tufts University supports and encourages a culture of interdisciplinary research and there are numerous such opportunities within the School of Engineering, the School of Arts and Sciences, and through graduate and professional schools.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include graduate-level preparation in a STEM field; an earned doctorate in that field, the learning sciences, or a related area; and a promising research trajectory. Responsibilities include the pursuit of a program of scholarly research in STEM Education; teaching undergraduate courses in their disciplinary field (Chemistry, Engineering, or Computer Science); teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the learning sciences; and advising students.

Application Instructions

As the two positions will be located in different schools, they are being conducted as separate searches.  For the A&S search, IRLI is leading the search effort. Interested candidates should submit application materials online to apply.interfolio.com/66448.  For more information about the A&S search, contact the search chair, Julia Gouvea, at julia.gouvea@tufts.edu. Review of applications will begin on October 15.

For candidates interested in the position in the SoE, application materials should be submitted online to apply.interfolio.com/66334.  Please contact the search chair, Chris Swan at chris.swan@tufts.edu for more information.

Applicants should submit a cover letter describing their research and teaching, curriculum vitae, copies of up to two representative scholarly works, and the names and affiliations of three to five references. References will be contacted only if a candidate advances through the review process and gives permission to make the contact. All materials must be submitted electronically through Interfolio.
