The Department of Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon University seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in the broadly defined areas of Experimental Inorganic Chemistry and Sustainability/Catalysis. The successful applicant will benefit from Carnegie Mellon’s interdisciplinary environment and our strengths in environmental, biological, and materials chemistry.  Emerging focus areas in the Department include machine learning and the automation of synthesis and characterization.  Research that addresses challenges related to assuring a sustainable flow of matter and energy in the environment is of interest.  Some envisioned activities include development of molecular-level tools for the environmentally-benign synthesis and lifecycle (preparation, molecular recycling/degradation and remediation) of chemicals, polymers, materials and fuels

We seek scientists who are eager to join and contribute to a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that promotes innovative research, education, and service initiatives.  The successful candidate will have a Ph. D. degree in Chemistry or a closely-related field and preferably relevant post-doctoral research experience.  Selection will be based in part on a record of research publications in internationally-recognized peer-reviewed journals, prospects for obtaining external funding, and the potential to become an outstanding teacher/mentor of students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels from a wide range of disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds.  Applicants at the assistant professor level are preferred, but exceptional senior applicants will also be considered.
