Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry

Starting Date: September 1, 2020

 

Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemistry Biochemistry. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience and evidence of scholarly productivity that will be transferable to a primarily undergraduate institution.

 

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes and laboratories in Introductory Chemistry (GOB), Biochemistry, and an integrated Chemistry capstone course. The successful candidate will develop an active research program. The successful candidate may have an opportunity to teach in the general education program. Additional responsibilities will include academic advising and other service to the Chemistry/Biochemistry Program, the College, and the University.

 

Rank and Salary: Assistant Professor. This position is eligible for tenure. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.

 

The Program: The Chemistry/Biochemistry Program is housed within the Department of Computational and Physical Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences. The program supports approximately 80 chemistry and biochemistry majors. The full-time faculty members in chemistry/biochemistry have received grant support from federal and private/foundation sources. Students and faculty in chemistry/biochemistry are active in field and laboratory research, study abroad programs, and internships. The program has a full-time laboratory coordinator. The Department supports the 60-acre Greene Field Station, which has extensive wetlands, a spring-fed stream, and disturbed oak savannah upland habitat. The program is housed in a new science building with state of the art teaching and research laboratories.

 

The College: The College of Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate programs through seven departments - Communication and Sociology; Computational and Physical Sciences (chemistry and biochemistry, computer science, information technology, mathematics, physics, software engineering); Education; English, Modern Languages and Literature; History, Political Sciences and Religious Studies; Life Sciences (animal behavior, biology, environmental science, psychology); and Visual and Performing Arts. The College has academic administrative and support personnel.
