FACULTY POSITIONS AT SCRIPPS INSTITUTION OF OCEANOGRAPHY AND

SKAGGS SCHOOL OF PHARMACY AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES, UC SAN DIEGO

Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) and the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) at UC San Diego (http://scripps.ucsd.edu) invite applications for two academic professorial positions as listed below, one junior faculty position jointly at SIO and SSPPS, and a second senior faculty position solely at SIO. We seek motivated, broad-thinking scientists/educators to establish vigorous research programs and provide intellectual leadership in their field while complementing existing expertise at SIO, SSPPS and other UCSD departments. SIO is a world-renowned institution for earth and ocean science research with approximately 200 principal investigators. The SSPPS is one of the premier schools for pharmaceutical sciences in the US with strong multifaceted programs in drug discovery. 1) Assistant Professor in Marine Natural Products and Chemical Biology (offered as a 50:50 joint appointment at SIO and SSPPS) - We seek outstanding candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with a history of innovative research activities at the intersection of marine natural products and human health. This field is inherently multidisciplinary, and we will consider applicants from a broad range of fields including but not limited to: natural products chemistry, drug discovery, biosynthesis, synthetic biology, and chemical ecology. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong extramurally supported research program that integrates with and aids the growth of existing marine natural products research at SIO, SSPPS and UC San Diego, and in particular at the Center for Marine Biotechnology and Biomedicine.

Ph.D., or equivalent degree, in a relevant field is required at the time of application. Strong potential for development of a vigorous, externally funded, and internationally recognized research program and associated scholarly impact, together with teaching, mentoring, and advising within the SIO undergraduate and graduate programs, and the SSPPS professional and graduate programs, evidence of service and broader contributions to diversity, leadership activities, and other items that will contribute positively to departmental welfare are preferred. Salary will be consistent with the applicant’s qualifications and experience, and with University of California pay scales.

2) Associate/Full Professor in Marine Natural Products and Chemical Biology (offered as a 100% appointment at SIO) - We seek outstanding candidates for a national/international thought leader in the field of marine natural products science and chemical biology. The successful candidate will have a well-established track record of innovative research activities broadly centered at the intersection of marine natural products chemistry and biological or biomedical sciences. Applicants for this inherently multidisciplinary position will have an exceptional record of published research in natural products chemistry, drug discovery, biosynthesis, synthetic biology, or chemical ecology, and a strong track record and commitment to graduate education. The successful candidate will be expected to continue a vigorous extramurally supported research program that integrates with and aids the growth of existing marine natural products research at SIO and UC San Diego, in particular at the Center for Marine Biotechnology and Biomedicine.
