Job Description:
Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry to start September 1, 2020. The position is a full-time, nine-month appointment. We are specifically interested in inorganic chemists or candidates with cross-disciplinary interests that are related to inorganic chemistry. SPU is a Christian university and applicants will be required to submit a faith statement with their application. Members of historically underrepresented groups, as defined by the National Science Foundation, are especially encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities include regular nine-month teaching load of about 33 quarter credits; teaching lecture and lab courses that include general chemistry, introductory inorganic, and advanced inorganic chemistry; supervision of undergraduate research (dedicated research lab space is provided); support of university mission, committee service, and advising are also expected.
Requirements:
Ph.D. in Chemistry. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry. Candidates with cross-disciplinary interests that are related to inorganic chemistry (organometallic chemistry, materials, bioinorganic) are encouraged to apply. Candidates should show evidence of excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduates, as well as a strong plan for undergraduate research. Applicants who can demonstrate effective mentoring of students from underrepresented backgrounds are especially welcomed.
