Position Overview:

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Boise State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Analytical Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting in the Fall semester of 2020.  Our department is comprised of 15 tenure and tenure-track faculty, 15 full-time instructional faculty, 10 staff members, 189 undergraduate chemistry majors, and 12 chemistry master’s students.  Our department offers both a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a Master of Science degree in Chemistry.  All undergraduate chemistry majors and master’s students are required to conduct research.  Our department is also engaged in interdisciplinary programs that allow for recruitment of Ph.D. students from Materials Science, Biomolecular Sciences, and Biomedical Engineering. 

We seek a creative analytical chemist who will undertake a vigorous externally funded research program involving both undergraduate and graduate students, and produce peer-reviewed scholarly publications from that research.  Teaching will include Analytical and General Chemistry courses as well as other courses matching the candidate’s expertise.  A Ph.D. in Chemistry (or closely related field) is required, along with a commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service.  Postdoctoral experience is preferred, but not required.  

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Teaching:  Commitment to undergraduate and graduate education with expertise in Analytical Chemistry.
  • Research:  Develop and maintain a strong research program that will complement and expand existing expertise in the department.  Mentor undergraduate and/or graduate students in research.
  • Service:  Participate in departmental, university, community, and/or professional service.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry (or closely related field)

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Postdoctoral experience in Analytical Chemistry or related field.
  • Proven track record of scientific achievement (such as a strong publication record).
  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity in the STEM fields.

The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • A passion and ability for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Extensive knowledge of analytical chemistry
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
