The Department of Chemistry at Louisiana State University seeks to appoint a distinguished scientist to pursue an innovative research program in understanding the underlying chemistry of the environment and/or developing chemical approaches to address state, national, and international environmental problems, broadly defined. The candidate is expected to be a leader at the national and international level in his or her field(s) of study, complement the existing environmental expertise in the Chemistry Department, in the College of Science, and at LSU, and be able to spearhead Departmental, College, and Institutional team and center funding pursuits that address the unique environmental problems of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. The Chair is endowed by a generous gift from the late Patrick F. Taylor and matching funds from the State of Louisiana.

Required Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field; demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, service and leadership.

Responsibilities:  Maintain a strong, well-funded, widely recognized research program; teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in Chemistry; direct/supervise graduate and undergraduate students; participate in University service, including committee activities, supervision of teaching/research assistants and student advising; maintain professional standards and level of competence.

LSU Chemistry: Research facilities occupy part of two buildings, Choppin Hall and the Chemistry & Materials Building. There are extensive instrumentation and computational facilities at LSU to support this position, including state-of-the-art NMR, mass spectrometry, optical and electron microscopy housed at the Shared Instrumentation Facility (SIF), and a synchrotron housed at Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices (CAMD) (www.lsu.edu/science/chemistry/facilities/instrumentfacilities.php; www.lsu.edu/camd/).

The Louisiana Board of Regents has a $1.3 billion educational trust fund that supports a variety of research and equipment programs.
