Grand Valley State University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position in Biochemistry. The Chemistry Department at GVSU is a diverse, research-active group with 29 tenure-track faculty, dedicated to excellence in teaching. With newly renovated laboratory space, excellent research facilities and extensive teaching support, GVSU offers a great opportunity to develop all aspects of a successful professional career.

Required Qualifications and Education: Ph.D. in Biochemistry or related field; ABD will be considered with a Ph.D. completed by August 2020. Candidates must show a commitment to undergraduate education and to maintaining a productive program of scholarship that includes undergraduate research.

Preferred Qualifications and Education: Preference will be given to candidates who: have the capacity and/or interest in teaching broadly in the biochemistry curriculum, including upper level laboratories; bring experience from a postdoctoral or industrial position; have demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate science courses; have experience using active learning strategies, employing technological tools to promote student understanding of biochemistry, or extending student learning experiences beyond the classroom, such as mentoring undergraduate research or project-based learning. The department is especially interested in qualified candidates who demonstrate an ability to work in a collaborative environment with a diverse population of students and colleagues.

Responsibilities: Duties each semester include: i) a baseline nine credit-hour teaching load, mainly involving biochemistry courses for science, pre-professional, and/or allied health majors, ii) baseline scholarship and service, and iii) a significant focus (equivalent to three credit hours) of additional responsibilities in teaching, scholarship, and/or service depending on the candidate's interests and the department’s needs. Newly hired faculty are normally expected to have their three credit hours of significant focus devoted to their scholarship. Department faculty are expected continually develop and grow as teachers, to maintain a productive program of scholarship, and to participate in departmental service activities. Employment begins August 6, 2020.
