Job Details

Job Summary: conduct independent applied research leading to the development of new product, process and business opportunities.

Basic job functions will be directed specifically toward:

1.    Identification and formulation of new systems for the antioxidant product line.
2.    Development and testing of lipid oxidation solutions for various food and beverage applications.
3.    Troubleshooting of lipid oxidation problems for both internal and external customers. 
4.    Validation of new raw materials and vendors.
5.    Application of extraction techniques for downstream processing to provide new value-added products and product forms.
6.    Application of extensive theoretical knowledge to identification of synergistic antioxidants, possible with flavor, and/or color systems. Gather, assess and report competitive and regulatory information.   
7.    Contribute to the Core product strategy at the direction of the Director of Applications & Sensory.
8.    Stay current with internal and external technical and market developments. 

Essential Job Functions: 

1.    To serve as investigator, planning, designing and independently conducting experiments and associated research activities directed toward identified, strategic business opportunities requiring:
a.    Judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and if necessary, creation and modification of appropriate scientific techniques. 
b.    The application of specialized techniques or ingenuity in selecting and evaluating approaches to unforeseen or novel problems. 
c.    A thorough understanding of scientific methods, research protocols, assessment instruments, and data analysis and interpretation.
d.    The evaluation and acquisition of new techniques and equipment that improve the capabilities of the lab and expand the possibilities for commercial opportunities.
e.    Careful recording of experimental observations in a laboratory notebook kept in a sufficient manner to protect Kalsec’s intellectual property rights. 
f.    Preparation of detailed reports describing research efforts, and when appropriate, presentation of research results to scientific conferences, customers, Kalsec staff and/or other groups. 
g.    The transition of promising research work into the application and process development groups for commercial development.
2.    To maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
3.    To develop contacts with outside researchers that further Kalsec’s business objectives.
4.    To maintain a safe and clean work area, complying with corporate safety and environmental policies.
5.    To participate in training programs deemed necessary to either develop job skills and laboratory capabilities or meet company policies and directives.
6.    To be aware of the company’s Q.A. policy and objectives, strictly observing these policy provisions in the fulfillment of this job.
7.    Participation in sensory programs and projects.

Education/Experience/Skills: 
Required:  

  • B.S. in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Chemical Engineering or other related scientific discipline plus four (4) years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Desired: 

  • Prior experience in Food Ingredient industry and/or Packaged Food Industry
