Assistant Professor - Organic Chemistry
The College at Brockport
The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department at The College at Brockport, State University of New York invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in organic chemistry or closely related field at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2020. The successful candidate will contribute to advanced courses in organic chemistry, as well as the foundational chemistry curriculum, and maintain an active organic chemistry research program involving undergraduates.
Major Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate lecture and laboratory courses in organic chemistry, and in additional chemistry courses in accordance with departmental needs.
- Maintain a productive research program in organic chemistry that involves undergraduate students and is amenable to support by external funding.
- Participate in College and departmental service that includes mentoring and advising of students.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in organic chemistry or closely related field, by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university. Includes candidates that will have their PhD by August 1, 2020.
- Applicants who do not hold a PhD need to provide convincing evidence that the degree will be conferred by August 1, 2020.

- Demonstrated effective undergraduate teaching.
- Ability to develop teaching strategies to meet changing student needs.
- Demonstrated research ability in organic chemistry related areas.
- Previous research experience which included undergraduate students.
- Ability to foster an inclusive learning environment for students.

- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Department Description
The mission of the department is to prepare the next generation of Brockport graduates to be successful through engaged learning, active scholarship and informed advisement. Our ACS approved program graduates approximately 15 majors annually with Bachelor’s Degrees in Chemistry or Biochemistry. One way we prepare our students for successful professional careers is through independent research experiences with faculty during the academic and summer months. The department maintains a comprehensive array of shared instrumentation as well as dedicated research spaces.
