The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Providence College, Providence, Rhode Island, invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the assistant professor level to begin August 1, 2020. One position is in the area of biological chemistry or chemical biology and the other position is in the area of physical, analytical, or materials chemistry with preference to applicants who can interface with biochemistry. Applicants are expected to be committed to teaching undergraduates and establishing an active, externally funded research program that engages students. Teaching duties will include introductory chemistry courses and, as appropriate, upper level courses in biochemistry, or courses in physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, or materials chemistry.  A willingness to teach courses for nonscience majors is also valued. We are seeking candidates who demonstrate a commitment to engaged learning and inclusive excellence in undergraduate teaching, and a willingness to participate in the wider life of the department and the College. The College continues to progress in its commitment to building a culturally diverse and inclusive educational environment.  The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is especially interested in applicants who can contribute through their research, teaching, and/or service to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.  Applicants are encouraged to include in their cover letter evidence of effective engagement with diverse audiences within and outside the College. Applicants should complete the online application form at https://careers.providence.edu and submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, undergraduate and graduate transcripts (copies are acceptable for application purposes), a description of research plans, and a statement of their philosophy on teaching, mentoring, and managing research at a primarily undergraduate institution. Also required are three confidential letters of recommendation. Qualified applications received by October 25 will be guaranteed consideration. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is accredited by the ACS and its biochemistry degree is also accredited by ASBMB.
