The laboratory of Prof. Juan Del Valle in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame is currently accepting applications for two open Postdoctoral positions.

The first is in the area of Organic/Medicinal Chemistry. Duties will include the design and multi-step synthesis of biologically active small molecules, prodrugs, and peptidomimetics targeting components of the unfolded protein response machinery. Modulators of these targets will be applied to the treatment of cancer and neurodegenerative disorders.

The second position is in Chemical Biology, with projects focused on the biological evaluation and characterization of inhibitors of protein-protein interactions and ER stress response pathways. Main duties will include recombinant protein expression/purification, development of in vitro biochemical assays, and evaluation of optimized inhibitors in cellular assays.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biology, or a related field, and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. Priority will be given to highly motivated, recent Ph.D. graduates with additional experience in one or more of the following areas: complex molecule synthesis, drug design, molecular pharmacology, and structural biology. Involvement in other ongoing interdisciplinary efforts in our laboratory will be an option for interested candidates.

Applicants should submit a cover letter indicating the position of interest, complete CV, brief doctoral research summary, and contact information for three references to jdelvalle@nd.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.  Please visit delvallelab.weebly.com for more information.

The University of Notre Dame has exceptional facilities for conducting biomedical research, including state-of-the-art NMR, mass spectrometry, crystallography, microscopy, genomics, and imaging facilities, among others. The successful candidate will have access to an array of resources throughout the College of Science and in the Warren Family Research Center for Drug Discovery and Development, which includes Biological Screening, Chemical Synthesis, and Computer-aided Molecular Design Core Facilities. The Del Valle laboratory and the Warren Center are housed in recently completed McCourtney Hall, a 220,000 square foot building dedicated to research in the molecular sciences and engineering.

Postdoctoral Scholars at the University of Notre Dame enjoy a highly competitive compensation and benefits package that includes a retirement plan, medical/dental/vision insurance, paid-time-off, parental leave, and educational reimbursement, among other benefits. The University of Notre Dame seeks to attract, develop, and retain the highest quality faculty, staff and administration.
